Chapter 1160: Senile?
Chapter 1160: Senile?
Lin Zhiyi heard the voice and turned to look in another direction.
Yu Mei was swaying with her wine glass, appearing casual, but her eyes were fixed on Lin Zhiyi, showing excessive concern.
Lin Zhiyi looked at the person beside her: "Where’s your husband? Busy?"
Yu Mei smiled: "He’s in the restroom. What about you?"
The confrontational tone from Yu Mei suddenly quieted everyone around.
Lin Zhiyi gave a slight smile to the homeroom teacher beside her: "There were too many fans downstairs, it was hard to park, and I was worried the teacher would get impatient waiting, so I came up first."
"You can just leave these things to the valet, why do you have to do it yourself? Or are you too afraid to come up?" Yu Mei retorted.
Lin Zhiyi raised her eyes and retorted: "Yu Mei, the main purpose of today is to see the teacher. What my husband is doing has nothing to do with you, does it?"
Yu Mei chuckled: "Everyone brought their spouses, and you didn’t. Are you... looking down on us? I understand, with your current status, or you wouldn’t embarrass people online anymore."
Lin Zhiyi felt that her words were missing the point and quite laughable.
"Whether it’s embarrassing depends on who the other party is. I don’t think my husband being here or not has anything to do with whether I respect everyone. Does your husband elevate your status?"
The words were obviously sarcastic.
Everyone knew about Yu Mei’s husband now; he was accused of workplace sexual harassment.
The reason he hadn’t been arrested was entirely because Yu Mei had paid a lot to settle with others.
The classmates stayed silent, watching Yu Mei as if they were watching a play.
Yu Mei likely had some contact with a few classmates before.
From the schadenfreude on their faces,
Yu Mei probably hadn’t treated them well, relying on her husband’s connections.
Back in school, Yu Mei had a strong personality.
At that young age, being flamboyant sometimes seemed like an advantage; after all, you needed something to flaunt.
But as she grew up, flamboyance became more like showing off.
This was no longer the age of comparing grades; there were too many things to compare, and the gap would only widen.
The more you show off, the more resentment you invite.
Now, with the exposure of Yu Mei’s husband’s affairs, everyone appeared harmonious on the surface, but in reality, they were mocking her in their hearts.
Yu Mei’s husband couldn’t stand the scrutiny either, so he used the restroom as an excuse to leave.
Yu Mei clenched her back teeth: "Lin Zhiyi, I asked about you, why are you bringing me into this? Those online rumors are false, otherwise how could my husband still appear here unharmed?"
Lin Zhiyi realized another purpose of Yu Mei’s presence.
Apparently, she also wanted to use classmates from various fields to clear her husband’s name.
Lin Zhiyi chuckled: "You’re overthinking it. I’ve never said anything about your husband. Let’s all sit down and chat with the teacher."
The homeroom teacher nodded: "Yes, Yu Mei, you’re still as impatient as you were before."
Another classmate, noticing Lin Zhiyi’s watch, stood up to ease the tension.
"Yu Mei, we’re all old classmates. Let’s sit and chat. Zhiyi said her husband was just delayed parking, and he’ll be here for sure."
"Exactly, Yu Mei, since when are you so interested in other people’s husbands? Pay more attention to your husband. Couples need to be a bit more honest."
The classmate’s voice was tinged with sarcasm.
The seeds Yu Mei had sown with her pranks at school had finally brought about karma.
Lin Zhiyi wasn’t the only one who had suffered from her antics, and she wasn’t the only successful person now.
Yu Mei could only emphasize after hearing this: "It was all just a misunderstanding."
One classmate said: "I know, no need to keep saying it, just sit down."
But some classmates were curious about Lin Zhiyi’s husband.
"Zhiyi, why don’t you call your husband and ask if he’s found the box?"
They weren’t letting her off the hook either.
After sitting down, Yu Mei let out a cold laugh, feeling she had achieved her goal.
Lin Zhiyi nodded: "Alright."
She took out her phone and dialed Gong Chen’s number.
"Honey, where are you?"
"Downstairs? Okay, there are quite a number of fans, be careful."
After hanging up, Lin Zhiyi looked up and saw the classmates staring at her.
"What’s up with you all?"
"Zhiyi, don’t mind us, we’re just really curious. After all, you were our school belle. Who wouldn’t want to know who the school belle ended up marrying?" teased a classmate.
The homeroom teacher seemed to notice something and intervened: "Everyone, stop teasing Zhiyi. He’s on his way, you’ll see soon enough."
"Teacher, we’re just worried about saying something wrong when we see him later. With Zhiyi’s success, her husband must be someone impressive too," a classmate remarked.
Yu Mei added fuel to the fire: "I’m curious too. If he’s so impressive, why have I never heard of him?"
Seeing the homeroom teacher’s frown, worried about her health, Lin Zhiyi decided to explain herself.
After all, one of her goals was to clarify things with her classmates.
Since they were eager, she decided to say it.
"My husband is a relative of the Gong family, but a distant one. He visited China during high school to see family, and my uncle asked him to pick me up, which is how that photo came to be."
"However, he settled abroad long ago and rarely comes back. Even after high school, I hadn’t seen him. It’s normal that you don’t know him. He was traveling the world these past years and only returned to China three years ago, and we reconnected."
This made sense.
The homeroom teacher immediately added: "That means you two were meant to be, which is a good thing. Alright then, it’s about time. Let’s order some dishes and start eating when your spouses arrive."
Clearly, the homeroom teacher didn’t want the reunion to turn into a chance for everyone to attack each other.
Lin Zhiyi smiled, poured a cup of hot tea for the homeroom teacher.
"Teacher, I know you like tea, so I brought some for you. My husband will bring it later."
She had forgotten it in her haste earlier.
The homeroom teacher nodded: "That’s very thoughtful of you."
Things finally calmed down, and then there was a knock at the door.
Everyone became interested and looked towards the door, curious about Lin Zhiyi’s husband.
Even Lin Zhiyi looked up.
Gong Chen arrived quite quickly.
But when the server opened the door, it turned out to be Yu Mei’s husband.
Having once been a deputy director at a fashion magazine, he had a good presence.
Handsome but not classy.
Unfortunately, he didn’t know how to maintain his reputation.
Yu Mei went up to hold him, then instinctively glanced at Lin Zhiyi.
"Hubby, what took you so long?"
"I had a smoke too." The man followed Yu Mei’s gaze to Lin Zhiyi, his eyes lighting up.
Realizing this, Yu Mei immediately pulled him back to sit down.
"Zhiyi, where’s your husband? We’re just waiting on him now."
"I saw the man in the photo’s car wasn’t cheap. Judging by his dress and age, he’s probably not young, right? Could it be he’s already..."
"Zhiyi, maybe you should go get him in case he takes a wrong turn. It’s normal to be confused at that age."
Lin Zhiyi didn’t explain, stood up and said: "Alright, I’ll go fetch him."
Yu Mei thought she had guessed correctly, smirked, and looked at her husband.
At least her husband was handsome and had an outstanding aura, better than anyone here.
Better than an old man, certainly.
Lin Zhiyi walked to the door, and just as she opened it, she came face to face with Gong Chen.
"What took you so long? Got lost in confusion?"
"..."
Gong Chen raised an eyebrow.
Confused?
