Chapter 6 Blood Jade Spider
Chapter 6 Blood Jade Spider
Inside the mine, an old man was fast asleep, leaning against a bench.
His name is Yu Xing. He comes from Tianque Fort and has been assigned to this spirit stone mine for many years. He guards a huge amount of spirit stones, but his annual salary is only a meager ten or so. It would be impossible for him not to have complaints and dissatisfaction.
Given his advanced age and the impossibility of achieving the Golden Core stage, he basically slacked off every day, leaving all the daily work to those few Qi Refining disciples.
He had a dream in which he received the inheritance of an ancient cultivator, his cultivation advanced by leaps and bounds, he successfully formed his core before his lifespan ended, and then smoothly formed his nascent soul and transformed into a deity, leading Tianque Fortress to become the number one sect in Tiannan, with countless beautiful wives and a house full of children and grandchildren...
Hongfen looked at the old man in front of her, who was enveloped in her pink mist and had a faint smile on his lips, and shook her head helplessly.
"This old man is sleeping so soundly. Well, that's good, we don't even need the Forget-Dust Pill."
Pink mist drifted and swirled, and the patrolling Qi Refining disciples felt a jolt in their hearts. Before their eyes was a beautiful spring scene, and before they could react, their consciousness instantly sank into darkness.
With nimble, delicate hands deftly produced Forget-Dust Pills, precisely flicking them into their gaping mouths. The entire process was silent, and the ordinary miners, engrossed in their work, remained completely unaware.
Having accomplished her mission, Hongfen returned to Yao Guang's side, and Yao Guang then told her the purpose of his trip:
"Deep underground in this spirit mine, within a series of stalactite caves, lies a level-four demonic beast, the Blood Jade Spider, and an ancient teleportation array..."
To prevent her from being careless and causing an accident, Yao Guang also explained the characteristics of the Blood Jade Spider according to the description in the original work, telling her not to be careless.
Hongfen was slightly startled upon hearing this. She hadn't expected that an ancient teleportation array was hidden beneath this seemingly inconspicuous spirit mine! She wondered how the young master had found out.
However, since the young master didn't say anything, she knew she shouldn't ask anything she shouldn't ask, and all she needed to do was complete the tasks assigned by the young master.
With a flick of her wrist, she summoned a rainbow-colored ribbon. The ribbon unfurled and gently enveloped her and Yao Guang. She then took out an earth-遁符 (earth-遁符, a type of talisman) and activated it at her fingertips. Instantly, an earth-yellow escape light enveloped the rainbow-colored ribbon, carrying the two of them into the strata beneath the spirit mine.
With the help of the Earth Escape Talisman, they searched underground for less than half an hour and found a network of stalactite caves. The escape light entered the cave and then dissipated, revealing the two people wrapped in colorful light ribbons.
It was pitch black all around, and even cultivators could hardly see anything more than ten feet away.
The moment Hongfen appeared, she swiftly unfurled her colorful ribbon, transforming it into a massive sash that layered around them, protecting them in the center. At the same time, a soft yet bright ball of light ignited at her fingertips, illuminating the surroundings to prevent the Blood Jade Spider from launching a surprise attack.
"Let's release the Burning Sun Eagle as well. Beasts are more sensitive to the aura of their own kind, and it's very likely that it will detect the Blood Jade Spider sooner than we do," Yao Guang's calm voice rang out.
Hongfen responded, patted the spirit beast pouch at her waist, and a crimson light flashed. The massive demonic body of the Burning Sun Eagle landed in the cave, a scorching wind rushed towards her, and flames danced in all directions, illuminating the surroundings even brighter.
"Go, find the spider that's hiding," Hongfen ordered.
The eagle's emerald eyes darted around, sharply scanning the surrounding passageway. It strode forward with its giant claws toward a stalactite cave, with the two following closely behind.
During the journey, the Burning Sun Eagle kept shrieking and howling, the sound waves echoing and reverberating in various caves, as if it were declaring its sovereignty over the place, or as if it were provoking the master of the place. But after each howl, it would stand still for a moment, its head slightly tilted, capturing the subtle movements and breaths in the darkness.
And so the two people and the bird traversed the maze-like cave for about half an hour.
Suddenly, the scouting eagle ahead let out an angry cry, its claws flashing, stirring up waves of fire, and it charged wildly toward a cave entrance to the left.
"They've arrived." The radiant rainbow silk enveloped Yao Guang and Hong Fen as they followed.
Sure enough, as soon as they stepped into the larger stalactite cave ahead, they saw the Burning Sun Eagle fighting with a spider several meters long, pure white and crystal clear.
The Sun-Burning Eagle flapped its wings, flames roaring, and with each flap of its giant wings, it stirred up towering waves of fire, pressing down on the white spider with overwhelming force.
The white spider, however, was exceptionally agile, its eight legs darting swiftly along the cave wall, constantly spitting out white liquid, which clung to the cave wall to form dense spiderwebs, blocking the flames.
"Sizzle sizzle sizzle..." The flames clung to it, but the seemingly delicate spider silk was exceptionally tough, and for a short while, it was impossible to burn through it.
When the Burning Sun Eagle realized its attack was thwarted, its emerald eyes blazed with ferocity. It raised its head and let out a sharp cry, its massive beak opening wide as it spat out fireballs the size of human heads, which bombarded the spider web relentlessly.
"Boom! Boom! Boom!"
The fireball exploded, flames danced, and the entire cave instantly turned into a vast sea of fire. The stalactites on the cave walls were scorched by the intense heat and melted into dripping molten lava.
If it weren't for the fact that it was in the same room as its owner, Hongfen, and was afraid of hurting her, it wouldn't dare to be too rampant, and this place would probably have been reduced to ashes long ago.
Even so, Hongfen and Yao Guang felt the overwhelming heat and quickly retreated further away.
The extremely tough spider web was bombarded by such dense fireballs, and finally several gaps were torn in it. Several fireballs pierced through the web and slammed into the white spider's crystalline body, instantly revealing several charred and cracked marks.
The white spider hissed in pain, its ferocity fully unleashed, and it went berserk. Its originally crystal-clear white body quickly turned into an eerie and violent blood red. Its eight scarlet compound eyes locked onto the Burning Sun Eagle, and with its fangs bared, it charged at the Burning Sun Eagle, braving the fireballs, to engage in close combat.
This is why it is called the Blood Jade Spider. Once it enters this berserk state, its defense will be greatly enhanced. In the original work, even top-tier magic weapons could not leave a single scratch on it.
Seeing its opponent charging towards it, the already ferocious Sunhawk went berserk. With a strange howl, it folded its wings and pounced on the opponent, wanting to fight it head-on.
Both were rare level-four exotic monsters, one fire-type and the other earth-type. This time, they fought hand-to-hand in the narrow cave, like earth fire crashing into thick rocks. They roared angrily, sending earth and rocks flying everywhere, and the air waves surged. They crashed into many stone walls along the way, and huge rocks rolled down. The two beasts fought fiercely and were unable to gain the upper hand for a while.
Just as the two ferocious beasts were fighting in the cave, Yao Guang and Hong Fen turned their gazes to the depths of the cave.
The two pushed aside the burnt and tattered spiderwebs and approached to take a closer look. In the center of a spirit stone mine, there sat an ancient hexagonal teleportation array, with obvious damage to one corner, which had ruined its integrity.
Beside the teleportation array, a five-colored skeleton sat cross-legged, floating three feet off the ground, holding an ancient yet exquisite token in its hands, emitting a shimmering blue light.
"Found it!" Hongfen exclaimed softly, unable to hide her excitement.
