Chapter 45 Breaking Through the Realm
Chapter 45 Breaking Through the Realm
As dawn broke, Liang Bing was the first to jump up.
"Let's go! Let's go!" She ran around in the cave, but He Xi grabbed her and held her down.
"Quiet."
Liang Bing pouted, but still obediently sat down. Keisha leaned against the rock wall, looking in the direction of the cave entrance. Zhao Chen stood there, gazing at the starry sky outside, lost in thought.
"When are you leaving?" she asked.
Zhao Chen didn't turn around. "Wait a little longer."
Liang Bing froze. "Waiting for what?"
Zhao Chen remained silent for a moment, then turned around. He looked at Keisha, his golden eyes reflecting the firelight.
"You guys go first," he said. "I'm going to break through in the starry sky."
The cave was quiet for a moment.
Liang Bing's eyes widened. "A breakthrough? Now?"
"Hmm," Zhao Chen said, "I've been stuck at the Perfection realm for a while, and now I need to find a place to go into seclusion."
Keisha stared at him. "How long?"
Zhao Chen thought for a moment. "If things go quickly, it'll take a month or two; if it takes longer..."
He didn't finish speaking. Keisha knew that the speed of cultivation was beyond one's control.
Liang Bing panicked. "What about the mine? Are we going to mine it ourselves?"
Zhao Chen looked at her. "Don't make a move yet. Wait for me to come back."
Liang Bing wanted to say something, but He Xi stopped her. He Xi looked at Zhao Chen with a calm gaze.
Are you confident?
Zhao Chen nodded. "Yes."
Keisha remained silent for a long time. She looked at Zhao Chen, her golden eyes showing no hesitation, only a heavy seriousness.
"Go ahead," she said.
Zhao Chen nodded. He looked at Keisha, as if he wanted to say something, but then remained silent. In the end, he simply reached out and gently took her hand. Keisha did not pull away.
"Wait for me," he said.
"……Um."
Zhao Chen released his grip, turned, and walked out of the cave. A flash of golden light, and he vanished into the starry sky.
The cave fell silent. Liang Bing stared at the cave entrance, lost in thought for a long time.
"Sister, brother-in-law is gone just like that?"
Keisha didn't say anything.
Liang Bing moved closer to He Xi. "Sister He Xi, do you think your brother-in-law can break through?"
He Xi glanced at her. "Yes."
Liang Bing blinked. "How did you know?"
He Xi didn't answer. She just looked in the direction of the cave entrance, where there was no one.
After Zhao Chen left, the cave became much quieter.
Liang Bing couldn't sit still; she would stand up and walk a few steps, then squat down and pok at the fire. He Xi leaned against the rock wall, closing her eyes to rest, while Keisha stared at the flames, lost in thought.
"Sister." Liang Bing came closer.
"Um."
"You mean if my brother-in-law doesn't come back for a month or two, we're just going to sit here and wait?"
Keisha glanced at her. "What's your hurry?"
"I'm just worried about those sisters," Liang Bing muttered. "Every day we wait, they suffer for another day."
Keisha was silent for a moment. "Wait for him to come back."
Liang Bing paused for a moment, then nodded.
"Okay. We'll wait."
—Tiancheng Star, Holy Light Tower.
Hua Ye leaned back on the throne, listening to the guards' report.
"An unusual energy fluctuation has been detected near the seventh outpost in the North, suggesting that someone may be cultivating there."
Hua Ye raised an eyebrow. "Cultivation? Who?"
The guard shook his head. "Unable to determine. The distance is too great; the fluctuations are very weak and have already disappeared."
Hua Ye thought for a moment, then waved his hand. "Forget it, don't worry about it. It's just a rat, how could it cause any trouble?"
The guards acknowledged the order and withdrew.
Sumari stood below the prince, frowning, and said, "Should we send someone to investigate?"
Hua Ye chuckled. "Investigate what? A bunch of female angels, what kind of trouble can they possibly cause?" He picked up his glass and took a sip. "Just tell the outposts in the North to keep an eye on things, so they don't make a fuss about nothing later."
Sumari did not speak again.
—One month later.
Inside the cave, Liang Bing listlessly poked at the fire.
"Why hasn't my brother-in-law come back yet..." she muttered.
He Xi leaned against the rock wall, looking through a crystal plate that he had taken out of Zhao Chen's storage ring—it was left behind by him before he left, and it recorded the terrain and guard distribution of the Northern Border Mine.
"What's the rush?" she said.
Liang Bing pouted. "It's been a month already."
Keisha sat at the cave entrance, gazing at the starry sky. She would sit there for a long time every day, sometimes for the entire day.
Liang Bing leaned closer. "Sis, do you think your husband will be in trouble?"
Keisha didn't say anything.
He Xi didn't even look up. "He'll be fine."
Liang Bing looked at her. "How did you know?"
He Xi ignored her.
Keisha gazed at the starry sky, her mind a jumble of thoughts. She couldn't quite articulate what she was thinking. Worry? A little. But more than that, it was an indescribable feeling.
She remembered what he had said—"Wait for me."
She will wait.
—Two months later.
Liang Bing stopped urging them. She started studying the mine's topography with He Xi, occasionally discussing rescue plans. Keisha still sat at the cave entrance every day, gazing at the starry sky.
That evening, Liang Bing was squatting on the ground drawing a picture when she suddenly looked up.
"Sis, what if your husband fails to break through?"
Keisha didn't say anything.
He Xi spoke calmly, "He will not fail."
Liang Bing looked at her. "Why do you always say that?"
He Xi ignored her. She looked in the direction of the cave entrance, where there was no one.
But she knew that person would come back.
—Tiancheng Star, Holy Light Tower.
Hua Ye had already forgotten about the rat. Reports from the Northern Territory piled up on his desk, unread. Sumali occasionally thought of the person who broke into the Heavenly Prison, but only occasionally.
A cowardly rat hiding in the shadows is not worth paying attention to.
—Two months and seven days.
Keisha sat at the cave entrance, gazing at the starry sky. Liang Bing was asleep inside the cave, and He Xi also had her eyes closed. The fire burned quietly, and the cave was very peaceful.
Suddenly, she sensed something.
She looked up and saw a golden light flying from the horizon, growing brighter and closer.
The golden light fell on the cave entrance and transformed into a human figure.
Zhao Chen stood there, his golden pupils even deeper than before. He looked at Keisha, a slight smile playing on his lips.
"I'm back."
Keisha looked at him, and her heart skipped a beat.
"A breakthrough?"
"Um."
Liang Bing was woken up by the noise and sat up, rubbing her eyes. "Brother-in-law? You're back?"
Zhao Chen nodded.
Liang Bing jumped up and rushed over. "You broke through? What realm are you in now?"
"Early Nascent Soul stage." Zhao Chen had concealed a major realm.
Liang Bing blinked. "Could he beat Hua Ye?"
"We can't beat them."
Liang Bing pouted. "What's the use?"
"They run even faster now."
Liang Bing choked. He Xi chuckled softly.
Keisha looked at Zhao Chen, her golden eyes reflecting the firelight.
"How much longer until we can beat him?" she asked.
Zhao Chen thought for a moment and said, "Give me some more time."
Keisha nodded. "Then let's wait a little longer."
Liang Bing listened, completely bewildered. "So, aren't we going to attack the mines now?"
Zhao Chen looked at her. "Go. Go tomorrow."
Liang Bing's eyes lit up. "Really?"
"Um."
Liang Bing cheered and ran off to study the map. He Xi put away the crystal plate and stood up.
"Get some rest," she said. "We have to travel tomorrow."
Liang Bing obediently lay down and fell asleep quickly this time.
Night had fallen. The fire had burned out, leaving only ashes. Keisha leaned on Zhao Chen's shoulder, her eyes closed.
"Was the breakthrough successful?" she asked softly.
"good."
Keisha didn't ask any more questions. She simply leaned against him, listening to his steady heartbeat.
Zhao Chen held her close, gazing at the starry sky outside the cave. There lay the path he needed to walk, the things he needed to do.
But at this moment, the cave is quiet and warm.
