Chapter 703 Mei Ping's Reward
Chapter 703 Mei Ping's Reward
The evidence room is located in a row of bungalows in the backyard of the Public Security Bureau.
The windows were fitted with iron bars, and the door was a heavy wooden door covered with sheet metal.
Mei Ping took out her key, unlocked both locks, and pushed open the door. A musty smell mixed with the stale scent of paper hit her.
The room wasn't big, only about 20 square meters.
Rows of wooden shelves stood against the wall, with cardboard boxes, cloth bags, and jars on them.
The shelves were labeled with the year and case details written in calligraphy.
The windows were small, and the light was dim.
Mei Ping turned on the light bulb above her head, and the dim light barely illuminated the small space.
After Mei Ping opened the door, she looked around to the west and saw no one else.
Then he beckoned to Lu Yao, who was hiding in the corner:
"Come in."
Mei Ping stepped aside to let Lu Yao in, then closed the door behind her.
Lu Yao looked around and found that this place was not what he had imagined.
There's no high-tech stuff like in the movies; it's just an ordinary wooden frame and a plain cardboard box, covered in layers of dust.
Mei Ping walked to a row of shelves at the back, squatted down, and looked through the labels on the boxes.
She moved very quietly, as if afraid of disturbing something.
"The case from June 1973, involving Liang Dongping's belongings..."
She muttered to herself, her finger tracing the label:
"Found it."
She opened a cardboard box, which was stuffed with a jumble of things:
A few old clothes, an enamel mug, several yellowed account books, and a stack of items wrapped in kraft paper.
She took things out one by one and carefully placed them on the ground.
Lu Yao squatted down to help.
He flipped through the account books, which only recorded daily expenses, and couldn't figure out anything special.
Then I opened the brown paper package, inside was a stack of photos, black and white, including group photos, exterior views of houses, and several reproductions of calligraphy and paintings.
Mei Ping looked through the photos one by one, and when she saw the last one, she shook her head:
"There is no 'Eight Horses Painting'."
She put the things back exactly as they were and then opened another box.
This box belongs to Li Poxi's family, and it contains even more miscellaneous items:
Many of these things were things that Lu Yao had seen before.
Most of the antiques hidden in his underground compartment are still there.
His case is still pending, and most of the evidence remains here.
Inside the red silk was a scroll, made of bamboo, which had already turned yellow.
Mei Ping carefully unfolded the painting, which was a landscape painting, signed "Shi Tao".
She flipped through the list in the suitcase again, which read:
"Six ancient paintings and calligraphy works awaiting authentication."
"Xu Beihong is not among them."
Mei Ping packed her things away, put them back in the box, stood up, and dusted off her hands.
Lu Yao couldn't help but feel fortunate. Of all the things, he had taken Xu Beihong's painting by himself. It was a twist of fate!
Since fate has somehow led me to this map, shouldn't the treasures hidden by the warlords also belong to me?
Lu Yao also stood up, looked at the rows of boxes, and asked:
"Are all the documents from these two cases here?"
Mei Ping shook her head: "No. Some were sent to the county, and some to the province. Liang Dongping's calligraphy and paintings were appraised at the county cultural center. Some remained in the county, and some were said to have been sent to the provincial museum. Li Poxi's case hasn't been solved, so most of his things are still there."
She walked to the door, pulled a thick notebook from a metal cabinet, flipped through a few pages, and pointed to the records inside for Lu Yao to see:
"Look, the western section of the ancient calligraphy and painting collection, which was transferred to the county cultural center on June 15, 1973, is also recorded, but there are no paintings by Xu Beihong."
Lu Yao leaned closer to take a look.
The notebook was hand-bound, the paper was yellowed, the handwriting was neat, and each piece of evidence was recorded with meticulous detail.
"Is the 'Eight Horses' painting actually at the police station?"
Mei Ping closed the notebook and put it back in the cabinet:
"No. At least not in these two cases. What Yuan Tianchu asked you to find might not even be related to these two cases. He might have made a mistake, or he might be testing your abilities..."
She didn't finish her sentence, but Lu Yao understood what she meant...
Yuan Tianchu might be testing him.
After the two came out of the evidence room, Mei Ping locked the door again.
Lu Yao smiled as he looked at Mei Ping:
"Now do you believe me? Yuan Tianshu has a problem."
Mei Ping glared at him:
"Stop being so cheeky. What do we do now?"
Lu Yao thought for a moment: "Didn't you tell me to get closer to him? Then I'll continue to get closer. He asked me to find the painting, so I'll say I couldn't find it and see what he says next."
Mei Ping nodded: "Okay, be careful. Don't alert them, but ensuring your own safety is the most important thing."
Lu Yao laughed: "Are you worried about me?"
Mei Ping blushed and ignored him.
Lu Yao took another step closer:
"Sister Mei, I've done you such a big favor, is there any reward?"
Mei Ping took a step back, looking at him warily:
What reward do you want?
Lu Yao said with a grin, "Whatever, otherwise I won't get a salary or bonus, and I'll feel resentful about taking such a big risk to help you..."
Mei Ping blushed even more, then suddenly stepped forward, grabbed his collar, stood on tiptoe, and gave him a hard kiss on the cheek.
Lu Yao was stunned.
I was just joking around. This damn womanizing personality of mine makes me feel like I have to pee if I don't flirt with a beautiful woman.
But unexpectedly, Mei Ping forcibly kissed her?
How did Sister Mei interpret it?
After Mei Ping finished kissing him, she turned and ran away.
She ran a few steps and then stopped, turning her back to him, her shoulders trembling slightly.
Lu Yao stood there, touching his face, unsure of what to say.
A few seconds later, Mei Ping suddenly turned around, walked back quickly, and grabbed his arm:
"What are you standing there for? Come on! What will people think if they see this!"
She grabbed Lu Yao and walked quickly out of the courtyard without looking back.
Only when they reached the front door did she release her grip, lower her head, and say:
"I acted impulsively just now. Please don't take it to heart."
Lu Yao looked at her, wanting to say something, but swallowed it back.
Mei Ping raised her head, her face still flushed, but her eyes had regained their usual calm:
"Go back now. Remember, let me know immediately if there's any news from Yuan Tianshu. Also, keep an eye on Shi Mengyi."
Lu Yao nodded and got into the car.
Mei Ping stood at the door, watching his car drive away before slowly turning around and walking back.
After walking a few steps, she stopped, touched her face, and found it burning hot.
She bit her lip and cursed herself:
"Meiping, Meiping, you've gone mad! Lu Yao just got married, what are you trying to do? Make a mistake?!"
……
Ju Wen returned to the office, looking somewhat distracted.
I always unconsciously make a mistake when I meet Lu Yao.
The guy opened the car window, gave a wicked smile, and made Ju Wen's heart tremble.
Take out your diary and write:
"It turns out that love isn't just sweet; it also tastes bitter, painful, and numb..."
I didn't think about work at all when it was time to leave work.
Looking at the pile of documents on his cutting board, he angrily pounded his head.
"Don't think about him, you have to work! Lu Yao said you're going to be the mayor... Ugh, why are you thinking about him again!"
Ju Wen quickly stood up and fetched a basin of water to wash her face.
Hearing someone come in, he scratched his exposed lower back with his fingers.
I thought it was Song Li from next door.
I looked up and there was a towel being handed to me.
Ju Wen took it, wiped her face, and opened her eyes to find Lu Yao standing in front of her with a grin.
"Why are you washing your face at such an inopportune time? You're too obsessed with being clean, Sister Wen."
Let reading always be a chapter faster than others.
