Chapter 54 Night Visit to Wudang
Chapter 54 Night Visit to Wudang
Feng Buping's already dwindling drowsiness vanished instantly.
"Which direction did they go?"
"It seems to be... in the direction of Wudang Mountain."
Feng Buping suddenly stood up, opened the window, and said to Yue Feng, "I'm worried, I'll go check it out. If you can keep up, then follow; if not, wait for me at the inn." Without waiting for Yue Feng's reply, he jumped out of the window. Although his movements weren't particularly agile, they were still quite swift.
Yue Feng had gone to great lengths to arrange this show, and now that the spectacle was about to begin, how could he possibly refuse to be an audience member? He then went out the window as well.
He suppressed his power to an extremely low level, using only the "Grasshopper" technique he had learned from Zhang Yunfei. Even so, he caught up with Feng Buping in a short time.
Feng Buping heard the wind whistling behind him, turned around, and was startled.
"How...how did you catch up? Your lightness skill...is it a family tradition?"
Yue Feng explained in detail: "No, my lightness skill was taught to me by a friend in the martial arts world."
Feng Buping wondered, "How fast can the lightness skill that my friends in the martial arts world talk about really be? Is this kid trying to trick me?" He then asked, "What kind of lightness skill is it?"
"It's Grasshopper, isn't it?" Yue Feng replied succinctly.
Feng Buping frowned. He had also learned the "Grasshopper" lightness skill, but it wasn't very interesting, so he gave up practicing it. How could he run like the wind like Yue Feng? Yue Feng saw that he was a little skeptical and laughed, "If you don't believe me, brother, I'll demonstrate for you."
There happened to be a patch of tall grass by the roadside. Yue Feng leaped onto it, glided for about ten feet, and then jumped down: "With my current skill, I can only 'fly' this far on the grass. However, this lightness skill is undoubtedly for flying on grass. Do you believe me now, brother?"
Feng Buping nodded calmly, "Yes, I believe you." But inside, he was overjoyed. He had thought Yue Feng's internal strength was good and his swordsmanship was quite good, which was already good enough. He never expected that Yue Feng could cultivate an ordinary grass-flying technique to such a level.
If this kid's skills improve in the future, won't he soar to the top? Won't his Sword Sect become the most powerful force in the martial arts world? Wouldn't everyone like Yue Buqun, Zuo Lengchan, and Lord Qi have to call him "Master Feng"?
Feng Buping, lost in his daydreams, arrived at the foot of Wudang Mountain. The heavy rain had long since stopped, and in the moonlight, only two rows of clearly visible footprints could be seen winding their way up the mountain path. Feng Buping recognized the footprints as those of Cheng Buyou and Cong Buqi, and gritted his teeth:
"What are those two bastards doing up Wudang Mountain in the middle of the night?!"
"Could it be that he went to cause trouble for that Taoist priest?" Yue Feng said casually.
Feng Buping thought about it and realized it was indeed possible. But the Wudang Sect was full of hidden talents; where would Cheng Cong and his companion get the audacity to cause trouble there? Just as he was frowning in worry, Yue Feng reminded him, "Brother, no matter what, let's go up the mountain and take a look first. If we're too late, something might go wrong."
"Yes, my brother, you're right." Feng Buping said, and then ran up the mountain. Yue Feng chuckled inwardly when he heard the words "my brother," and followed after him. The two dared not enter Wudang Mountain to search directly, assuming that Cheng Buyou and Cong Buqi wouldn't have the guts either, so they investigated from the outside.
Soon, they came to a high vantage point on the hillside and saw a large cluster of low houses. Feng Buping, who had visited Wudang earlier that day, whispered to Yue Feng, "These are the disciples' quarters of the Wudang Sect. That Taoist priest probably lives here too."
Yue Feng said, "Shall we go down and take a look?"
Feng Buping nodded. The disciples living here generally did not have high martial arts skills. With their lightness skills, they could sneak in unnoticed.
The two descended the hillside, stealthily moving between the houses. Yue Feng's skill was many times greater than Feng Buping's, and his hearing was also many times better. Hearing voices coming from a nearby room, where candlelight was still on, he said to Feng Buping:
"There's light there, shall we go take a look?"
Feng Buping, who had no idea what to do, immediately agreed, "Let's go take a look." The two crept to the outside of the room, and heard a young man's voice inside say, "Junior Brother Yuan Cong, what do you need the wound medicine for? Are you injured?"
Yuan Cong said, "It wasn't me, it was my brother-in-law. He was beaten by those two thugs during the day, and he was badly injured." Judging from his accent, he was the same Taoist priest from the inn. Feng Buping and Yue Feng exchanged a glance and both breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed they hadn't arrived too late; Cheng Cong and the other man hadn't found Yuan Cong yet.
A rustling sound came from the room, as if Yuan Cong's senior brother was searching for medicine. While searching, Yuan Cong's senior brother asked, "I heard you later led some men to look for those two culprits? What happened?"
Yuan Cong sighed, "Hey, don't even mention it. I ran into a brat who fought me for ages. His swordsmanship was mediocre, but his internal strength was truly formidable. I couldn't defeat him, so I had to come back."
"But after I got back and thought about it, I realized that if that kid hadn't stopped me, I don't know what kind of mess I would be in now. So I don't blame him."
Yuan Cong's senior brother laughed and said, "You're right to think that way. There are countless masters in the martial arts world, and many heroes are hiding among the common people. Those two villains have done many evil deeds, and they will surely perish. How could it be a chance for a greenhorn like you? Here, the medicine is ready. Take it to your brother-in-law."
Yuan Cong thanked his senior brother, opened the door and left the room. He turned back to thank him again before closing the door and striding away. Yue Feng, seeing Feng Buping remain motionless, gently patted his shoulder: "Brother Feng?"
Feng Buping snapped back to reality, suppressed his shame, and said in a deep voice, "Let's go, let's go see Yuan Cong's brother-in-law too."
Yue Feng readily agreed. The two followed Yuan Cong at a distance, arriving at a relatively secluded location. This place was far from the main buildings of the Wudang Sect, but close to the disciples' quarters, presumably where the family members of the disciples who had come to visit stayed.
Yuan Cong walked into a house, and a woman who looked somewhat like him stood up and said, "Little brother, you've come."
"Hmm." Yuan Cong nodded, looking apologetic. "Sister, I'm sorry. Even with me here, my brother-in-law still got hurt. This is a special wound medicine made by our sect. It's very effective in treating external injuries. Please use it on him."
Yuan Cong's older sister quickly said, "No need, little brother, your brother-in-law is fine. I've already applied medicine to him. You martial artists are always wielding swords and knives; it's inevitable that you'll get cuts and bleed. You should keep this medicine for later, okay?"
The siblings hesitated for a while, then suddenly a long sword pierced through them, knocking the wound medicine from Yuan Cong's hand aside. The siblings' eyes followed the medicine to the side, and Yuan Cong roared angrily, "Cong Buqi! How dare you come here!"
Cong Buqi's lewd gaze lingered on Yuan Cong's older sister. Suddenly, he made a move and sealed their pressure points. He turned Yuan Cong's body around so that he could clearly see the scene on the bed, and then carried Yuan Cong's older sister onto the bed.
